Departments in Sri Dalada Maligawa

To give proper and an organized service to the worshippers, and to conduct the social, cultural and national duties need to be done by Sri Dalada Maligawa, there should be a properly organized departments and organizations to handle such tasks.

To full fill the above requirements Sri Dalada Maligawa is included with several departments which facilitate the needed requirements. Below is a short description about those units and their duties in Sri Dalada Maligawa.

• Administrative Department

The administrative department is in the ground flow of Sri Dalada Maligawa. This is the main department which handles all the information about the employees work in Sri Dalada Maligawa.The department is administrated by an Administrative secretary.  This department also conducts  the day today facilities offered to worshippers  who comes to Sri Dalada Maligawa.

• Finance Department

This Department handles the financial matters in Sri Dalada Maligawa. The main aspect of this department is to maintain the financial management in a transparent way. Financial department is also responsible for presenting the yearly budget of Sri Dalada Maligawa to take the approval from the Commissioner of Buddhist affairs in Buddhist affairs department.

• Lands Department

This department handles and maintains the lands donated by distinguished people to Sri Dalada Maligawa.

• National Buddhist Affairs

This department is responsible for properly conducting Buddhist festivals in Sri Dalada Maligawa and facilitating the Temple (Raja Maha Vihara) related to Sri Dalada Maligawa. This department also offers scholarship to non facilitated Dhamma school student to strength their education and life.The present Honorable Diyawadana Nilame does lot of charity services through this department for local community.

• International Buddhist affairs

This department is responsible in acknowledging the International Community about Sri Dalada Maligawa and Buddhist affairs conducted by Sri Dalada Maligawa.   This department is also responsible in communicating and coordinating the international institutions and organizations to take a part in the development and cultural festivals in Sri Dalada Maligawa.

 This department has contributed for many projects which are currently running in sri dalada maligawa such as establishing the International Buddhist academy (SIBA) and International Buddhist Museum (IBM).

• Media Bureau

In a world which Electronic and publication media share knowledge and awareness of all mankind, Sri Dalada Maligawa Media Bureau performs a very important role among other departments in Sri Dalada Maligawa.   Sri Dalada Maligawa Media Bureau is responsible in communicating with local and foreign media by giving them true and accurate information about Sri Dalada Maligawa and Buddhist rituals in Sri Lanka.

Today the Media Bureau produces their own television programs and productions to international and local Media to promote Sri Dalada Maligawa and to give the awareness about the Buddhism to local and foreign spectators.

• Perahera Department

This department is responsible in conducting the Esala Perahera and improving the talents and skills of traditional Artist  which participate in Esala Perahera and Other cultural festivals conducted by Sri Dalada Maligawa.
